Mavericks owner Mark Cuban joins advisory board of Athlete Ally

ICHAEL O'KEEFFE" Mark Cuban - who has said he would be honored to have an openly gay player on his Dallas Mavericks - has joined the advisory board of Athlete Ally, an organization working to end homophobia in sports. As an official partner of the NBA and NBPA, Athlete Ally works with the league on player development, delivering trainings at the NBA Combine, the NBA & NBPA Annual Rookie Transition Program, along with workshops for the Team Player Development Directors. The organization also published a resource for the NBA in the spring of 2013. The Athlete Ally advisory board already includes Martina Navratilova, Brendon Ayanbadejo, Robbie Rogers and David Kopay. "It's a new world. Everyone should know that they can be themselves in sports. Leagues like the NBA, their teams and players have a great opportunity to set an example and spread a message to people who are either LGBT or straight that our culture should be celebrated for diversity and individual authenticity," Cuban says.

Tim Tebow speaks at Involved for Life event in Dallas on April 26 and at TCA fundraiser April 27

Tebow is scheduled to speak at an Involved for Life event on April 26 at the Dallas Omni Hotel. The New York Jets quarterback and former Heisman Trophy winner will then speak at a Trinity Christian Academy fundraiser on April 27 at the Hilton Anatole Dallas.

ABC renews Patricia Heaton's series, 'The Middle,' for fifth season

Yvonne Villarreal; Los Angeles Times; The laughter will continue for ABC's "The Middle" and "Last Man Standing." One of the network's solid performers, "The Middle" has held steady, quietly nabbing a fifth season. The family comedy, featuring "Everybody Loves Raymond" alumna Patricia Heaton, holds its own on Wednesdays, a night overshadowed by "Modern Family" on the network. Meanwhile, the Friday comedy "Last Man Standing," starring Tim Allen, seemed to live up to its name. Whereas fellow Friday roamer "Malibu Country" got the boot, "Last Man Standing" will return for a third season. The comedy managed to hold somewhat steady, despite a shortened season and a move to Fridays. Its recent season finale, which had Allen re-team with former "Home Improvement' co-star Jonathan Taylor Thomas, pulled in 7.9 million viewers and a 1.6 rating in the advertiser-cherished 18-49 demographic. Not too shabby for a Friday.
